Chesterfield, MI

Chesterfield is where our shop is. The bench, the saws, and the finishing room are on Bayview Drive off 23 Mile, which means that for anyone in this township we are a local carpenter in the plainest sense of the word — not a company that services the area from somewhere else. The township itself splits into two kinds of housing. Along Anchor Bay and the canals off the Salt River there are older waterfront and cottage-built homes, many added onto over decades. Inland toward I-94, 21 Mile and Gratiot, most of what stands went up during the subdivision boom of the 1990s and 2000s, when Chesterfield was one of the fastest-growing townships in Macomb County.

Those two housing stocks need opposite things from a finish carpenter. The bay-side homes are rarely square, often carry three generations of additions, and need trim matched to profiles that are no longer sold — so the work is measuring what is actually there, milling to suit, and making a repair read as original. The subdivision homes have the reverse problem: they are square, they are sound, and they were finished to a budget. Two-story foyers, open great rooms and nine-foot ceilings were built with the thinnest casing and base the builder could buy, and they respond immediately to real profiles, coffered and tray ceilings, wainscoting, and staircase work. We also build the storage these floorplans skipped — mudroom lockers off the three-car garage, closet systems, window seats, home-office and entertainment built-ins, and kitchen cabinetry measured to the room rather than fitted out of stock boxes.

Because the shop is in Chesterfield there is no travel time and no travel premium on local work, and scheduling is easier than anywhere else we serve. You are also welcome to see a piece on the bench mid-build, which is the honest way to judge finish carpentry — the joints tell you more than any photograph. We measure in person, put a real number in writing, and we are fully insured.
