Rochester Hills, MI

Rochester Hills is a different kind of job from most of Macomb County. The housing here skews larger and newer — late-'80s through 2000s subdivisions with two-story foyers, open great rooms, nine- and ten-foot ceilings, and generous kitchens — with pockets of genuinely old housing closer to downtown Rochester and along the Paint Creek corridor. Big rooms and tall walls are an invitation for finish carpentry, and builder-grade interiors almost never take it up.

In the newer subdivisions the work is architectural. Two-story foyers and great rooms are where coffered and tray ceilings, beam treatments, and full-height wainscoting actually pay off, because there's the volume to carry them — the same detail that would overwhelm a standard room makes a tall one feel finished instead of empty. We also build the pieces these houses are missing despite their size: entertainment walls sized to the room rather than the TV, home-office built-ins and libraries, window seats in bay windows, mudroom systems off three-car garages, and butler's-pantry and island cabinetry matched to existing kitchen finishes. Closer to downtown Rochester the job flips to matching and restoring original profiles in older homes, which is work we do constantly across the region.
