Utica, MI

Utica is a small old village that the suburbs grew around. The historic core near the Clinton River and downtown predates almost everything surrounding it, and the city today is a mix of genuinely old houses, mid-century homes, and newer condos and townhomes tucked between Shelby and Sterling Heights. Two very different kinds of woodwork live inside those few square miles.

In the older village homes the job is restoration and matching — original casing, baseboard, crown, and staircase profiles that no stock trim will line up with. We template what's there, mill or source material to match, and blend new work into the original run so a repair disappears rather than standing out. In the condos, townhomes, and newer builds the job is the opposite: good bones, plain interiors, and not much square footage to waste. That's where built-in shelving, window seats with storage, closet systems, wall paneling and wainscoting, and cabinetry measured to the actual room earn their keep — adding both character and storage without taking space the floorplan can't spare.
