Warren, MI

Warren is the biggest city in Macomb County and the third biggest in Michigan, and almost all of it went up in a hurry. When the auto plants, the GM Technical Center, and the Detroit Arsenal pulled tens of thousands of families here after the war, builders answered with block after block of brick ranches and bungalows between Eight Mile and Fourteen. Those houses were built well and built fast — solid framing, simple lines, and interior trim chosen for speed rather than character. Seventy years on, that's exactly the opportunity.

Warren woodwork is about upgrade, not restoration. The typical postwar ranch here has small rooms, eight-foot ceilings, thin builder-grade casing, and a kitchen laid out for 1958 — and it responds dramatically to finish carpentry, because the bones are sound. We add crown molding and taller baseboards to give flat rooms a top and bottom edge, build wainscoting and board-and-batten to break up long blank walls, replace hollow builder trim with real profiles, and put in the storage these floorplans never had: mudroom lockers by the side door everybody actually uses, closet systems, basement and garage built-ins, and window seats under the front picture window. In kitchens we build cabinetry measured to the room instead of forcing stock boxes into a space that was never standard. Where original mid-century trim is worth keeping, we match and extend it rather than tearing it out.

Warren is about sixteen miles from our Chesterfield shop — closer than a lot of the places we work — so scheduling is easy and there's no travel premium. We come out, measure in person, talk through what will actually change how the room feels, and put a real number in writing before anything is cut.
